Full Marks: 100 |  Pass Marks: 35 | Time: 3 hrs.

Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far as practicable. The figure in the margin indicates full marks:

  1. Write an essay on the advantage in industrialization by discussing how our lives have improved in medical care, transport and communication, food, entertainment, and education. Write a paragraph for each of the five topics, and make sure that the essay is between 200 and 250 words. [15]
  2. Write a paragraph on any topic by using the following connectives: moreover, besides, but, nevertheless, however. [10]
  3. Apply the four levels of interacting with texts to Koirala’s “A Tale” or Lawerence’s “piano”. [15]
  4. In one paragraph, retell the plot of “The Wretched Stone” or “Third Thoughts”. [10]
  5. Do you agree with Richards Wright and Moti Nissani that education is supremely valuable? Why or Why not? [15]
  6. Summarize the plot of “If Not Higher” in one sentence. [5]
  7. Answer the following on “My Papa’s Waltz” or “Metraphors” [15]
    a. In one paragraph, summarize its plots.
    b. Explain the unstated message in the poem.
    c. What could you say against the poem?
    d. What does the poem meant to you?
  8. Is the Hitch biker, in your opinion, a good man or a bad man? Does the narrator of the story really believe that a hitch-biker is a “fantastic fellow”? [15]

    Last night your radio worked perfectly well. This morning, it won’t work. Give one possible hypothesis for this failure, and purpose one experimental test of your hypothesis.
