Read: Four Levels of “No Smoke From The Chimneys”

Summary:

The speaker of the poem tells death that he does not have time to go with him. Similarly, he also does not have time to wash up the blood from a broken head. In the second stanza, he addresses to the lady that he does not have time for love so he requests her not to stop his advancing feet. The speaker is aware about the condition of his country people who have stopped eating their meals and are struggling.

The Poem:

I don’t have time,
Death, do not call me,
I don’t have time to mop up
the blood from a broken head,

Lady, do not detain my advancing feet,
I have no time for your blandishments.
The people of my country
have canceled their meals,
and are struggling: look!
