Birth of Nelson Mandela (Rolihlahla Mandela)

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in the village of Mvezo, in the Eastern Cape, on 18 July 1918. He was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was country’s first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. He was criticized for much of his life as communist terrorist. His governments were trying to dismantle the legacy of apartheid. But later he gained international acclaim for his activism. Then, later on he was regarded as an icon of democracy and social justice. He also received Nobel Peace Prize. His respect increased within South Africa and described as the “Father of the Nation”.
