On this day, 20 July, 1969, the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, landed on the Moon, and after several hours later Armstrong became the first person to set foot on its surface.

Apollo 11 was launched by a Saturn V rocket from Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Florida, on July 16 at 13:32 UTC.
