Martin Luther King Jr. was an American minister and activist who became the most renowned spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954 until his assassination in 1968. He was born on January 15 1929 and died on April 4 1968 in an assassination. He is known for the support and fight for the Civil Rights in the America. He led the Montgomery bus boycott(a political and social campaign against policy of the racial segregation on public transit system of Montgomery) in 1955. He became the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (an African-American civil right organization). On October 14, 1964, King won the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolent resistance.

He was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, at 6:01 p.m. CST (Central Time Zone). James Earl Ray, a fugitive from the Missouri State Penitentiary, was arrested on June 8, 1968, in London at Heathrow Airport, extradited to the United States, and charged with the crime. On March 10, 1969, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 99 years in the Tennessee State Penitentiary.
