Compulsory English at the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) level aims to develop students’ proficiency in English as a tool for communication, academic learning, and global interaction. The subject focuses on strengthening learners’ abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also enhancing their understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and language structures.
Through a variety of thematic, literary, and informational texts, students are exposed to contemporary social, cultural, scientific, and ethical issues relevant to both national and global contexts. The course encourages critical thinking, creativity, and effective expression, enabling learners to interpret texts, articulate ideas clearly, and respond appropriately in different communicative situations.
Compulsory English also emphasizes the development of language accuracy, fluency, and comprehension, preparing students for higher secondary education and practical use of English in everyday life. By the end of Grade X, students are expected to communicate confidently, analyze texts thoughtfully, and apply English skills responsibly in academic, professional, and social settings.
